The data protection authority is a federal authority of the republic of Austria (Section 35 Austrian data protection act 2000). She is the independent supervisory authority according to Article 28 para. 1 of the directive 95/46/EC and Article 8 para. 3 Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

The Awful German Language

Please read this section carefully if you want to use German text on your website. German is a difficult language. For people who do not speak German, it is very easy to trip over something as simple as the name of an organisation or an address. Please observe a few rules to avoid mistakes:

  • When you need information on data protection laws in Austria, please refer to our English website. We made it for exactly this purpose.
  • Copy names and addresses carefully, and watch the spelling.
  • The German language contains several unique letters that are not used in the English language. These are the "umlauts" (Ä Ö Ü ä ö ü) and the "scharfes S" or "Eszett" (ß). These letters exist for a purpose. Please do not omit or change an umlaut or ß! This is a serious spelling error that will confuse internet search engines.
  • Do not try to be creative with German unless you really know what you are doing.
